Common Care

What kind of  CPR Training do you need?

for Non-Medical Professionals

This class is appropriate for caregivers, new parents, PE teachers, coaches, UIL team staff members and others who need official certification but who are not licensed healthcare workers.

Heartsaver covers one-person and two-person compressions with mouth to mouth and mouth to mask breathing techniques. Heartsaver incorporates use of AED as an essential part of single-man or two-person rescue.  The focus is on sustaining circulation to the brain while awaiting EMS. Heartsaver includes lessons focused on adult or child victims with additional modules for infant CPR and first aid.

BLS

This class is appropriate for licensed healthcare workers such as nurses, PT, OT, and ST as well as nursing students, med students, etc.  BLS covers one-person and two-person compressions with mouth to mask, mouth to mouth, and bag valve mask breathing techniques.  This course also covers use of AED and use of a multi-person team approach which is often applicable in healthcare facilities.   The class covers adults, children, and infants.

HANDS-ONLY

Any staff member should learn and review Hands-Only CPR which focuses on quality compressions and use of an AED if available.  This class does not provide certification. Although Hands-only CPR does not include rescue breathing, high-quality compressions can keep a person's brain adequately oxygenated to prevent death while EMS is in route.
